Multi-Platinum, GRAMMY®, BRIT, Golden Globe, and Oscar-winning artist and songwriter Sam Smith has announced their highly anticipated fifth studio album, ‘Hazel Eyes’, due for release on 21st August 2026, alongside brand new single ‘My Guy’ out via Capitol Records UK now.

Of ‘My Guy’, Sam said This is a song that I feel I have been waiting a lifetime to write and sing. Written with beautiful friends on a summer’s day in New York, this one fell out of the sky. In this sometimes cold and distant world, I hope you can feel the love and the closeness of this recording. I tried to capture the glow and the warmth of love in this one, it makes me cry maybe it will make you feel a little love too.’

‘My Guy’, taken from the album ‘Hazel Eyes’, is a heartfelt ode to the city of New York Sam now calls home. A modern fairytale of requited love, capturing themes of emotional vulnerability, artistic freedom, and self-reflection. Created alongside longtime collaborator and friend Simon Aldred, the album paints a rich sonic landscape, blending intimacy with expansive storytelling. Most of the 12-song LP took shape in New York, where Sam joined forces with a small circle of collaborators, including indie-pop luminary Feist and multi-instrumentalist/composer Shahzad Ismaily (Yoko Ono, Damien Rice). Partly recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios, the result is an album that draws from an eclectic constellation of genres (baroque pop, British folk, outlaw country, left-field R&B)—all while foregrounding their incandescent voice and soul-baring storytelling.

Audiences were given a striking introduction to the new music when Sam announced their run of global residencies and unveiled the eponymous ‘To Be Free’, captured through a soulful one-take vocal and guitar recording. The series of performances debuted at Brooklyn’s historic Warsaw before continuing to San Francisco, where Sam became one of the first artists to perform on the newly refurbished stage of the iconic Castro Theatre. These shows blended beloved hits with unreleased tracks from the new album alongside surprise appearances from artists including Hozier, Ed Sheeran, Brandi Carlile, SIENNA SPIRO, and Kim Petras. Among the new songs unveiled were the new single ‘My Guy’, a tender and personal love letter co-written Fiest, who also features on the sultry ‘Moondance’; and the country-infused ‘Constant Companion’, exploring the complexities of true love, each song offering a glimpse into the emotional depth and sonic breadth of the new record on which Sam has both written and produced. Sam’s residency series continues this summer at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, building anticipation ahead of the album’s official release, with more global live dates to be announced soon.

To celebrate the release of ‘My Guy’ and the announcement of ‘Hazel Eyes’, Sam has showcased a series of performances, including the global debut of ‘My Guy’ at the inaugural MAJ Awards in Japan (watch here) and a stunning UK first on BBC2’s Later With Jools Holland. Later this month, in a spectacular kickoff to NYC Pride Weekend, Sam will deliver a historic, intimate performance on Friday 26th June at The Booking.com Theatre at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Centre (SNMVC). The first LGBTQ+ visitor centre within the National Park Service, the SNMVC honours the legacy of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and serves as a vital physical sanctuary dedicated to protecting and preserving LGBTQ+ history. The performance will unite Sam’s generation-defining voice with one of the movement’s most sacred sites, celebrating the enduring power of queer history, community, and resilience.

Of ‘Hazel Eyes’ Sam said ‘This album is an incredibly special record to me. I have been writing it for over three years with a very small group of beautiful, dear friends of mine. This album is very personal, and I feel I have deepened myself as an artist through the making of it, through being a producer on the record, to walking alongside this record from the start to the finish and pushing myself at every single turn. This record and this music is incredibly romantic. I’ve learned so many life lessons through making this album, and I’ve documented it all through the music.’

Sam Smith is one of the most celebrated musical artists to emerge in recent history. A five-time GRAMMY® winner, Sam holds two Guinness World Records – for the most consecutive weeks in the U.K. Top 10 Album Chart (for their 2014 debut, In The Lonely Hour) and for having the first James Bond theme to reach No.1 on the U.K. charts (for the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning “Writing’s on the Wall”). Sam has amassed over 64 million adjusted album sales, 392 million singles and over 57 billion career streams across their catalogue of critically acclaimed albums In the Lonely Hour, The Thrill of It All, Love Goes and GLORIA, which Rolling Stone praised as “their deepest album yet” and includes the global smash single, “Unholy,” Ft. Kim Petras. The track spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and four weeks at No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart, marking Sam’s eighth to top the tally. In June 2025, Sam released their showstopping live album BBC Proms At The Royal Albert Hall after their groundbreaking performance at the infamous British music festival.
