London four-piece Alphabet have announced a ruminative new single titled “Into The Blur”. The track, which was produced and mixed by guitarist Tom Sullivan, and engineered by Sean Woodlock at Hackney Road Studios, follows the band’s summer tour and recent acclaimed single “Sense”.
With just a handful of singles to their name, the band already have racked up over 300K streams and built an enviable presence on the UK live circuit with appearances at East London Block Party, Truck Festival, Green Man Festival, Liverpool Sound City, Brighton Psych Fest, Outertown Festival, and showcases for DIY and Dork at the turn of the year, with the latter stating that the band “command attention”. They also sold out their last headline show at the Grace in April, and have supported the likes of Slow Fiction, Ulrika Spacek, TRAAMS, Our Girl, and Egyptian Blue. Their expansive recent single “Sense” saw the band earn widespread plaudits with Stereogum describing their music as being “a brooding concoction of ’80s gothic rock and early 2000s alt-rock, like if the Cure, TV On The Radio, and the Bravery grabbed a late-night drink.”

The new single “Into The Blur” leans further still into that early 00s sound. Combining reverb-soaked rhythmic guitar work with alternating vocals, the track is as much atmospheric and ethereal as it is driving and melancholic. Never content to be pigeonholed the sub-3-min track is strewn with nods to hazy shoegaze, danceable basement indie, and hook-driven lo-fi bedroom pop, continuing to show new facets to the band’s songwriting abilities. It also highlights their commitment to a DIY ethos, not only was it produced and mixed by Sullivan, the artwork was also created by vocalist/bassist Lena Pilshofer.
Speaking on the new single Pilshofer says, “Into The Blur is a memory of a period in my early 20s – a time when I was pretty unhappy, but also felt very creatively alive. It’s about getting older and realising you’ll never feel quite the same way again. I don’t necessarily want to go back to how it was, but I miss the freedom and not really knowing where life was going. It’s about wanting to be there just once more.”
“Into The Blur” marks the next big step in Alphabet’s next chapter, one that sees them make good on all the early, organic word-of-mouth hype and early press support that has been mounting around them. As the year winds to a close, the band have several live dates lined up over the coming months, including a headline single release show at London’s Old Blue Last, giving fans and newcomers an exhilarating taste of both what has earned them such high praise so far, and what is yet to come for the band in 2027.”
