Talking about the compilation, Paul said:“Do you like good music, that sweet soul music….” Fuck yeh!

For me, whatever it is, from jazz to R&B, funk to reggae, blues to soul, I love all of it, and I’m in wonderment and enthralled by it all. Look at how Black music (that is really of African heritage with roots in African music) changed our post-war years in Great Britain over the decades. Prior to it, we were still doing stiff-assed dancing to big orchestras, bands and crooners! Black music’s arrival to these shores changed all that.

Some of it raw as fuck and some of it so sophisticated. Listen to Hubert Sumlin’s guitar on ‘Three Hundred Pounds Of Joy’ (by Howlin’ Wolf). No one was playing guitar like that over here ’til we heard Hubert and cats like him. Voices we weren’t used to hearing, fire in the voices, joy, pain, tears, smiles. Expressions like we’d not heard before. It changed the landscape and inspired so many artists and fans alike. Still does! This music is timeless. Its roots are as old as time.

I hope you enjoy this compilation; it’s the sort of thing I would have made up on a mix-cassette 30-plus years ago. Some of it you will know, some maybe you won’t. It’s not about point scoring anyway; it’s only about how the music hits you and affects you.

I hope you enjoy it!

Peace, love and unity.

KTF, always.
