Interpol have announced their new album This Mirror Weighs a Ton, their first in four years and debut for Partisan Records, arriving August 28. Alongside the announcement, the band share the two opening tracks, the title track and ‘See Out Loud.’ Listen here.
Produced by Andrew Wyatt (ROSALÍA, Charli xcx) and mixed by David Fridmann (Sleater-Kinney, MGMT), This Mirror Weighs a Ton expands Interpol’s sonic palette with the addition of strings, woodwinds, layered vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar and experimental sound design while maintaining the band’s signature rhythmic and melodic approach. The album was recorded at Wyatt’s studio on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, marking the band’s first time making a record in their original home base in over a decade.

‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’ + ‘See Out Loud’ offer a study in duality, with Interpol stretching the edges of their identity without losing the pulse that made them essential. The title track unfolds like a slow revelation, all warped bass, tidal motion, ghostly vocal textures and immersive sound design, bending the band’s familiar language into something subtly alien and expansive. ‘See Out Loud’ strikes with taut rhythms, serrated guitars and the nocturnal charge etched into Interpol’s DNA, sharpened by layered harmonies, shifting perspectives and a rare vocal turn from Daniel Kessler (his first since Turn On The Bright Lights ‘PDA’).
The album’s title emerged from Paul Banks’ improvisational vocal process, where melodies and phrases develop simultaneously. Themes of reflection, perception and emotional tension recur throughout the record, and the artwork features a work by Addie Wagenknecht currently held in the Whitney Museum of American Art’s permanent collection.
Over the past two years, Interpol have remained in near-constant motion, headlining arenas and festivals across Europe, Latin America and Asia, with streaming at an all-time high and audiences continuing to grow worldwide. A defining moment came with their largest show to date in Mexico City, where they performed to more than 200,000 people.
Earlier this year, Interpol also appeared at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they previewed material from the new album including ‘See Out Loud’ and ‘Wings on Fire.’ Next month, the band will begin a 23-date North American headline tour. Tickets are on sale now via interpolnyc.com/tour-dates
The band will also return to the UK & EU later this year for a run of 18 co-headline dates with Bloc Party. The tour begins in Copenhagen on 10 November at the Royal Arena, before heading through Berlin, Paris, and Amsterdam, and reaching the UK on 20 November for a first show at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena. The run continues with dates in Cardiff, Sheffield, Dublin and Glasgow, alongside two nights in Manchester and Brighton, before culminating with two huge closing shows at London’s Olympia on 4 and 5 December.
