As the celebrated Tuscan composer and pianist Antoni O’Breskey celebrates 50 years in music, Antoni O’Breskey: The Piano Nomad, a new documentary by acclaimed Irish filmmaker Luke McManus (North Circular), will premiere at The Lighthouse Cinema on Sunday 21 June. The documentary features contributions from composer Cormac McCarty, journalist Siobhán Long, author Fintan Vallaley, musician Paatho Cummins and more.

The screening will be followed by a special musical appearance from the Piano Nomad himself, Antoni O’Breskey, along with piper Joe McHugh, hammer dulcimer player Barry Carroll and O’Breskey’s daughter, Consuelo Nerea Breschi (Varo, Landless) – fitting for a screening taking place on Father’s Day.
The event, collectively titled I Nomadi: Celebrating Irish-Italian Film & Music, will also feature shorts from Cara Holmes, Luca Truffarelli & Alex Sapienza. It celebrates the unique contribution Italians have made to the cultural life of Dublin, not least in the worlds of film and music. This event is part of Stoneybatter Festival 2026, in collaboration with Istituto Italiano di Dublino, Radio Dublino and Banco Bakery Stoneybatter.

The documentary arrives just days ahead of the release of Antoni O’Breskey: 50 Years of Music — a monumental three-volume album spanning five decades of boundary-dissolving composition and performance, which will be released digitally and on 3 CD on Tuesday 24 June. Order HERE.

About Antoni O’breskey
Antoni O’Breskey, an Italian-born composer and pianist of Argentine heritage, has made Ireland his home and spent five decades pushing the boundaries of music.
He is celebrated for pioneering piano improvisation within Irish traditional music and flamenco, seamlessly blending these genres with jazz, blues, and classical influences.
Since the 1970s, his distinctive sound has created a unique bridge between distant musical worlds, earning him recognition as a leading trailblazer and interpreter of world and new age music.
Amongst his historical collaborators are: Ronnie Drew (The Dubliners), Máirtín O’Connor (De Dannan), Steve Cooney, Donal Lunny (The Bothy Band), Cathy Jordan (Dervish), Juan Martin, Antonio Carmona (Ketama), Gabin Dabirè, Davide Viterbo, José Seves (Inti-Illimani), Benito Lertxundi and many more.
Recently, he has been working extensively with rising stars of the Irish folk and traditional music scene, including his daughter Consuelo Nerea (Varo/Landless), Ultan O’Brien and Kevin Murphy (Slow Moving Clouds/Rattling Ark), Paahto Cummins (Skipper’s Alley/Ispíní na hÉireann), Ross Chaney (John Francis Flynn Band/Throwing Shapes/ Seamas Hyland).
For his significant contributions to Irish culture, O’Breskey was honoured at a series of celebratory concerts at the National Concert Hall in Dublin in 2005, 2007, and 2012. The events featured special guest performers including The Dubliners, flamenco guitarist Juan Martín, and other distinguished artists.
