The Cheap Thrills have today released their highly anticipated debut album Keep Cheap. Listen here / purchase here.

The Liverpool indie band are celebrating the release with a five date instore tour which kicks off today with two consecutive sold out shows at Jacaranda Baltic in their hometown, before continuing across the UK. The instore shows come ahead of their nine date headline tour across the UK in October which is widely sold out.

In further celebration of their debut album release The Cheap Thrills have also today released the video for new single ‘electric fences’, a pensive yet anthemic song about “inner turmoil and how I feel a prisoner in my own thoughts,” as frontman Lewis Pike explains. “The electric fences serve as imagery that I don’t want to let you in, and I don’t want to let myself out.”

Keep Cheap is an uplifting record packed full of huge songs which celebrate their Liverpool roots while delivering poignant universal messages for the entire nation. It tracks the journey from their humble teenage beginnings to becoming one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the city in recent times.

It features further singles including ‘hairs’ which opens the album with bright synth-laden keys, while ‘run’ shimmers with yearning for clarity and escape, while things are more imposing on the politically charged ‘looking’ featuring powerful spoken word.

The propulsive ‘reborn’ shot them onto the indie airwaves with champions Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music as well as John Kennedy at Radio X, while the release of ‘codependence’ skyrocketed them to scouse hero status as the soundtrack for Liverpool FC’s European kit campaign. Building on this multimillion streamed hit they solidified their standing in the city with the release of ‘walton vale’, a homage to the street that birthed The Cheap Thrills while also analysing wider problems in society.

Elsewhere new songs continue to develop the poignant messaging of Keep Cheap. Love in its various forms is analysed throughout the record, the acoustic ballad ‘take things back’ reflects on fonder times, while the glistening ‘something for nothing’ is a celebratory track about, “recognising your own worth as well as someone else’s.”

‘air breathing mammals’ reflects on family and focuses on life in its simplest form, as the chorus states “Don’t you ever meet your heroes, they’ll only let you down,” a word of advice passed to Lewis by his late father, while ‘calypso blue’ closes the album with a touching song about losing someone close to you.

Keep Cheap arrives today to cement The Cheap Thrills as Liverpool’s most important new export, an album which stands testament to a band ready to take on the world.
