SOAK – Irish singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson – has announced a new record today titled decembers, out December 4, 2026 via Rough Trade Records. They are sharing the title track today alongside a visualiser by Cuan Roche.
On decembers, we travel with SOAK on the road through America, walk the frost-glistened paths of Dublin at night, search for a meteor in Portugal, and return home to Derry, Ireland. Everywhere, here is an artist evolving, exploring, releasing themselves, coming undone, and eventually, becoming. Born out of literal silence as Monds-Watson contended with an autoimmune disease that prevented them from singing, it was the absence of sound that birthed the Derry artist’s most sonically and lyrically remarkable album to date.
“When I try to describe the album,” Monds-Watson explains, “I always go back to a quote from Thomas Wolfe’s novel You Can’t Go Home Again where he says ‘You can’t go back home to your family, back home to your childhood, back home to romantic love… back home to the old forms and systems of things which once seemed everlasting but which are changing all the time—back home to the escapes of Time and Memory.’ I think for a long time I wanted to disprove that concept, I don’t know why I was so determined – maybe the familiarity of before felt safe. In the end I realised that was no way to live and had to learn how to lean into the rest of my life. In a way, I think decembers is about forgiveness.” decembers follows stand-alone single ‘death valley fridge magnet’ and SOAK’s 2024 viral collaboration with Fred Again.. on the track ‘just stand there’ which has been played over 25 million times. Their last album was 2022’s If I Never Know You Like This Again which followed 2019’s Grim Town and their Mercury-nominated 2015 debut Before We Forgot How to Dream. They have toured extensively across the US and Europe, including performances at Glastonbury, SXSW, Primavera and Other Voices, and as support for Julien Baker, Modest Mouse, Lucy Dacus, Pulp, The Lumineers and more. This fall they will head to America to support The Barr Brothers including a stop at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom.
