The summer has been good to Jess Ball, the rising Australian alt-pop artist having recently relocated to London and made a strong impact with her track ‘Kiddin’’. Now Jess Ball looks to the future by reflecting on where she has come from with the new single ‘Lost On Me’. Listen HERE. Watch the official video HERE.

Part of Jess Ball’s creativity is inspired by how songs can carry particular and personal meanings for different listeners. With ‘Lost On Me’ she is providing that outlet for others, with a song that unites shimmering alt-pop production, classic singer-songwriter emotional fragility, and the vocal class that she has established her reputation with. It’s a song fuelled by the nostalgia that people can impact upon your life and still drift out of it – a concept that’s real for all of us, but especially for an artist who has moved to the opposite side of the world.

Jess says, “‘Lost On Me’ is a tribute to childhood memories and the people who helped shape them, while also embracing new beginnings and the possibilities that lie ahead. Although it can be bittersweet to realise that some moments are behind us, there’s something beautiful about having experienced them in the first place. As life changes, the places and people we hold close are not diminished – they remain a lasting part of who we are.”

‘Lost On Me’ continues Jess’s creative collaboration with producers and co-writers Antoni Polimeni and Richy Sebastian, also known as 1and2 Productions (EDX, Tensnake, Curbi and NERVO).

The song’s accompanying video brings them to life in a very personal style. It compiles home footage filmed by Jess’s parents: capturing little moments of childhood, friendship, family, and all the ordinary days that somehow became precious memories.

She adds, “As life takes us in different directions, to different countries and different chapters, it’s easy to forget just how much of who we are was shaped by these moments and the people we shared them with. Grateful for the people, places and moments that made us who we are. This song is about growing up, letting go, and carrying those memories with us.”

Jess’s influences reflect the growing diversity of her sound, citing Cigarettes After Sex, Lily Allen, Olivia Dean, AJ Tracey, Massive Attack, Turnstile and The Cure as favourites. Yet her first breakthrough moment came when her high school music teacher introduced her to 1and2 Productions. That led to her featuring on EDX’s ‘I Found You (Neptune)’ – the first song they recorded together, and one that has exceeded 20 million streams. Soon Jess was an in-demand topliner for major Australian dance artists.

As much as she appreciated and enjoyed that world, she also craved working on her own solo project – a desire that 1and2 were eager to support. Last year’s EP ‘Where You Go’ got that mission started, which she has since expanded upon with the likes of ‘Lately’ (with Jelani Blackman), ‘Roundabouts’ and ‘Kiddin’’. Jess Ball’s new start is now rapidly building momentum.
