Power-popping Northern Irish trio Ash have today been announced for Live at Castle Mills, Kilkenny’s newest live concert series, on Friday, July 17th. Ash join previously announced headliner Public Image Ltd (PiL) and special guests Kerbdog, promising a must see night of live music.
Three decades into a career peppered with timeless indiepunk nuggets and wildly inventive gigging and releasing concepts, thunderous trio Ash show no sign of slowing down.
With two Top 20 albums in the past three years, the Northern Irish band have cemented their status as one of the country’s most enduring and dynamic live acts. Celebrated for their electrifying performances and timeless hits including ‘Girl from Mars’, ‘Shining Light’ and ‘Burn Baby Burn’, Ash step forward with their latest album Ad Astra – featuring eleven new tracks that fuse indie sensibilities with sleek electro-pop – as a band who live for live music.
“It was decided we needed something else. Something to bridge the gap between two contrasting modes of the band, a second act in the trilogy. And that kinda revealed itself to us bit by bit over the course of the album. Getting the title right before the record was complete (a first in 33 years!), brought out the theme of the album and turned what felt like an eclectic bunch of songs into something with maybe more of a narrative than we’ve ever had.” By focusing on the endless horizon of galaxies far, far away and staring into an endless black hole, Ash has somehow ended up creating a cohesive whole. As if creating this lovingly optimistic opus wasn’t enough to be cracking on with, they’ve kept themselves busy elsewhere, have Ash: They’ve run riot at SXSW in Austin, played Belfast for Steve Lamacq at Independent Venue Week, toured Down Under, headlined the 100 Club for BRITsweek, played a rammed Other Stage tent at Latitude, amassed the masses at Glastonbury for the eighth time last year and toured the UK with fellow rocksters The Darkness.

Live at Castle Mills event is being launched in partnership with the Kilkenny Nighttime Economy initiative, taking the opportunity to show Kilkenny’s vibrant, diverse and unique evening and late night cultural scene. The venue is within easy walking distance of Kilkenny city centre, so attendees are encouraged to walk or use public transport where possible. For those travelling by car, city centre parking is available. Please note there is no parking on site
