The Fabulous Courettes Ignite The Grand Social with Some Retro Fizz

“BOOM BOOM BOOM”

The Courettes rocked Dublin last night playing the Grand Social in the first of a 3-date tour of Ireland, the Brazilian/Danish duo of Flávia Couri and Martin Thorsen had the crowd jumping with their blend of sixties pop crossed with the edgy vibe of The Ramones.

Martins drumming is a heartbeat that never stop, it’s powerful, relentless and precise, setting the pace throughout. Flávia commands the stage with fiery charisma wielding her guitar like a weapon, delivering vocals that shift seamlessly from sultry to full-throttle roar, her unpredictability continuously wooing the audience.

The duo tore through a huge setlist, a mixture of old and new, featuring some crackers from their latest album The Soul of The Fabulous Courettes. The highlights from the night included the infectious “BOOM BOOM BOOM” and my personal favourite “CALIFORNIA” a sun-drenched standout that would do any surfing movie proud, but to be fair there wasn’t a filler track in the bunch, every number hit its mark, which the sweat drenched crowd could testify to too.

The Courettes

Their aesthetic might flirt with the past, but their sound is rooted firmly in the now—loud, defiant, and thrillingly alive, delivering a gig packed full of originality that had every person in the audience moving some part of their body to sound that is The Courettes.

This gig wasn’t just wonderful it was absolutely unforgettable, vintage rebellion at its best.

Stefan Murphy

Opening Act

Stefan Murphy opened the proceedings, having never seen Stefan before, it was a delight to hear. His voice is extremely easy on the ears and there is something very characteristic about him, sharing the odd joke in between songs helped in creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.

His rendition of Metallica Font not only well sung but gave everyone a nice chuckle. I can’t wait to catch Stefan with his new band The Sleeveens, where I am reliable informed, he is something to behold.
