Everyone Says Hi are pleased to share their new single “Communication”, out now via Chrysalis Records. Listen here.

Everyone Says Hi is led by ex-Kaiser Chiefs’ songwriter/drummer, and multi-platinum musician, Nick Hodgson. His songwriting pedigree speaks volumes, having co-written with the likes of Dua Lipa and collaborated with Mark Ronson. However, after originally planning to release a new solo album a few years ago, Nick soon realised that being in a band is where his real passion for music lies. Thus, Everyone Says Hi was born.

The five-piece released their self-titled debut album in January of this year. Since then, they’ve shared stages with the likes of Razorlight, Van Morrison and Neil Young in the UK and Ireland, as well as perform at various music festivals over the summer.

Every One Say Hi Band

Co-written with Justin Parker (Lana Del Rey, Rihanna), “Communication” is the band’s catchiest to date. Spearheaded by a groove laden bassline, the track was also written on a Fender Stratocaster that the band’s frontman Nick Hodgson recently purchased from The Strokes’ guitarist, Albert Hammond Jr. For Nick, writing the track felt somewhat akin to Nile Rodgers’s famed hitmaker guitar; the more he played, the more songs would simply appear out of the instrument.

Lyrically, “Communication” ruminates on the consequences of today’s phone scrolling culture, instead offering a rallying call for us all to be more present and to cherish living in the moment. It’s a similar ethos that the band have taken forward themselves, all being experienced musicians in their own right, to then starting their own new project from scratch last year.

Now, with more music in the pipeline for 2026 and buoyed by their growing momentum, Everyone Says Hi open their next chapter more confident than ever.

Speaking about the release, Nick Hodgson says: “The origin of Communication has three parts

One: I bought Albert Hammond Jr’s old guitar. I kept playing it, and songs started to appear – maybe they’re his songs?

Two: Around the same time, I was trying to play Lola Young’s ‘Messy’ on guitar. I hit the wrong chord, but that mistake became the starting point for the ‘Communication’ chords.

Three: While writing the chorus on that same guitar, I kept getting WhatsApp messages and emails – reminders of all these things I had to do. I kept responding and more would come in. I was still playing guitar and singing and suddenly the chorus lyric popped out. ‘Communication is getting me down.

I wrote the words with Justin Parker. The bass and drums were the thing that really took the most time in the studio. Then really late in the process, our bassist (Pete Denton) played a new bassline. I remember we all looked at each other and I’m hesitant to say, some dancing did occur. That was the final bit of the puzzle, it all fell into place after that.”

The single also comes with the announcement of two new headline shows in December, where the band will share brand new material from their forthcoming second body of work. They will perform at The Lexington in London on Tuesday 9th December, and Brudenell in Leeds on Wednesday 10th December. Tickets can be purchased here.

About the band…

Everyone Says Hi is the fruits of a multi-platinum musician deciding to draw a line and start afresh. Back to the same bedroom floor where the first tentative notes were played, holding the same guitar that was played way back when, back to forming a band with trusted friends, and back to booking the sticky basement stages where teeth were first cut. But whilst you can metaphorically wipe the slate clean on most things, you cannot unlearn what you already know. If emotionally driven, arena-ready songs come almost second-nature, you’d be foolish to ignore the gift you’ve been given.

The band’s name is lifted from a David Bowie song of the same title. What you hear across their debut album’s ten tracks is beautifully sculpted songcraft performed by some very experienced players. Not so much showing ‘promise’ here, but instantly delivering bonafide ‘big songs’ that belie the band’s status as relative newcomers.

Nick Hodgson has long been a songwriter in high demand. Since leaving his teenage band back in 2012, he has co-written for the likes of Dua Lipa, You Me At Six, Duran Duran, George Ezra, and Holly Humberstone, and collaborated on tracks alongside Mark Ronson, Kygo, and Shirley Bassey. Having racked up over 5 million cumulative album sales globally, Nick now focuses on a new challenge. You wouldn’t bet against him.
