BABYRAT Headline Show at The Savoy Cork – Live Review

High-Octane Entrance: BABYRAT Take the Stage by Storm

Cork’s own BABYRAT are fast becoming one of the most thrilling new names bubbling up from Ireland’s underground. Riding a wave of momentum from a string of well received shows, the band stepped into a new league last night with their debut headline slot at The Savoy Cork.

BABYRAT’S entrance feels more like a boxing ring walk-on than a typical gig opener — a path carved through the crowd as each member makes their way to the stage, all flashing lights, glitz and a whole lot of noise.

And from that point on, you’re in Rat Mode — hold on tight, because it’s one helter-skelter ride, kicking off with ‘Roses’, a thumping opener that leaves little doubt about how the night’s about to unfold.

The Savoy’s upstairs stage might be tight on space, but that doesn’t deter BABYRAT from using every inch of it — and then some — with high-energy jumps, dips and relentless movement as they tear through track after track. ‘Talk Talk’, ‘Headwreck’ and ‘Pretty Little Lies’ all land as absolute crackers.

The night flies by, with Zoe and Jamie pushing the intensity to the limit, the sold-out crowd knowing exactly what to expect — and throwing themselves into it. The tracks keep coming: ‘Anybody Else’, ‘Last I’ll Ever Love’, ‘Feel It’, ‘Kickstart’, ‘Bite The Bullet’, ‘Realise’ and ‘First to Know’, before it all caps off with ‘That’s So Babyrat’ — joined by some of the crowd on stage, somehow finding space where there really shouldn’t be any.

Overall

BABYRAT are something special, embodying everything great about live music, with ‘Bite The Bullet’ the standout of the night. There’s little doubt they’re destined for bigger things — so catch them while you can. An amazing band, an amazing gig.

Special Guests Bode Lash

Another Cork band oozing class, delivering a powerhouse set topped by stunning vocals from Amy. Their set included ‘Tony Pizza’, ‘Barbarella’, ‘On Me’, ‘Fat Kid’, ‘In Colour’ and ‘Puckett’, with ‘On Me’ standing out in particular.

Bode Lash are one of those bands that, once you’ve actually heard them, you immediately want more. Tight, raw, and full of personality, they’re a band to watch — one I will definitely be keeping an eye on.
