‘Sea Swell – Live at The Unitarian Church, Dublin’
Announced for the Jameson Music Trail at Other Voices Dingle Headline shows in Kilkenny, Galway and Cork on sale now
The Cork-based orchestral folk outfit How I Became A Wave have released a live version of their single ‘Sea Swell’, recorded live at The Unitarian Church, Dublin in April this year. Watch the video here.
How I Became A Wave’s Pat Carey says: “‘Sea Swell’ is one of the songs that changes most from night to night. It starts very quietly, then the cello, pedal steel and keys gather around the voice until the whole room is moving with it. In that church, with the audience close and utterly silent, you could hear all of it.”
The release comes as How I Became A Wave gear up for an intimate run of Irish shows, culminating in performances at Other Voices, Dingle on 28th and 29th November as part of the Jameson Music Trail.

Ahead of Other Voices, How I Became A Wave will play Monroes, Galway on Fri 6 November; Cleere’s, Kilkenny on Sun 8 November; Cleary’s Window Session, Limerick on Thu 12 November; and Bandon Folk Club, Cork on Fri 27 November. Buy tickets here.
In January 2027, How I Became A Wave have been selected to showcase at the prestigious Folk Alliance International – this year being held in Chicago, USA. They join fellow Irish artists like Junior Brother, Brídín and Roisín Gowen.
How I Became A Wave released their self-titled debut album in March this year to much critical acclaim, with The Irish Times calling it “a textbook lesson in enveloping frayed nerves with gorgeous, textured music” and champions across press and radio drawing musical comparisons with the likes of Damien Rice and Bon Iver. Listen to the album here.
Live support slots with Joan Shelley, Lisa Hannigan, Villagers, Gemma Hayes, Niamh Regan, Ailbhe Reddy, John Spillane and demonstrating the backing How I Became A Wave have received from some of the genre’s most respected artists. How I Became A Wave was named in the Irish Independent’s Ones to Watch for 2026. They wrote: “Pat Carey makes music that quietly acknowledges the strength it takes to be vulnerable, and the comfort that comes from creativity and collaboration”.
