The Title Track from Their Debut Ep – Coming Soon
The First Releases Under a New Deal with This Feeling Records in Partnership with Lab Records
Upcoming Tour Includes a Sold-Out Headline Show at Manchester Gorilla
Preston risers The Cases have emerged as next wave contenders in the indie-rock world, first attracting thousands of fans to their TikTok live sessions and then establishing an IRL following with last year’s debut sold-out headline tour as well as major festival sets at Isle of Wight and Y NOT?. Now things heat up in 2026 as they share the new single ‘Mr Penny’, the title track from their upcoming debut EP.
Both releases herald the band’s brand new deal with This Feeling Records in partnership with LAB Records. The rock’n’ roll tastemakers This Feeling have helped countless bands go from modest grassroots beginnings to the biggest of stages, with a network of nationwide gigs, festival line-up curation and their own This Feeling By The Sea weekender. Meanwhile, LAB Records guided The K’s to #1 on the UK’s Official Album Chart last year and recently saw ALT BLK ERA earn their first MOBO Award nomination.

If you’re new to The Cases, ‘Mr Penny’ is the place to start. It is irresistible, high-energy indie-pop which feels like a hybrid between the youthful rush of The Royston Club and the arena-filling melody of The Kooks with a touch of The Courteeners’ swagger. Its storytelling lyricism tells of a man who falls in love with the wrong woman – leading to a wedding in which the “til death do us part” promise rapidly becomes a prophecy.
Vocalist / rhythm guitarist Harry Hornsby says, “If you’re gonna get into a relationship, everyone’s got a chance of getting hurt. When it works out, everyone’s happy, but if not… you can end up like ‘Mr Penny’. It’s a fictional story, but it’s something that many people go through. Between the ages of 16 and 19 you think you’ve found the love of your life, but it often doesn’t work out.”
The single is the first chapter of the ‘Mr Penny’ EP, a four-track set which charts a story of faltering young love – from the uncertainty of ‘The Curse’ to the heartbreak of ‘She Said’ and finally the release of being free to make a brand new start with ‘Romantic’. Sonically the band’s effervescent energy remains on point without simply sticking to a formula, at times stepping into melancholy reflection or accelerating into a punkish release of energy. All four songs were written back-to-back as the band’s own experiences unleashed a flood of inspiration.
Bassist James Maher adds, “The whole thing tells a story of the different ways that people take a breakup. We had all been through break-ups when we wrote it, so we felt those emotions: being upset, being angry, then realising nothing’s that deep because we’re still young.”
The Cases recorded the EP last year after the self-funded band pooled their finances to book sessions with producer Chris Taylor (The Lathums, Blossoms, Courteeners) at Kempston Street, Liverpool. He helped unlock the band’s potential during what they agree was the best two weeks of their lives: the vocals are powerful and expressive, the lead guitar sparkles more than ever, and the rhythms provide a thunderous foundation.
It’s the sound of a band who you’d guess have been in the game for years, yet the band are still all aged between 18-21. Harry and lead guitarist Will Bullen first formed a band in school solely to enter a talent contest, but didn’t fully discover their creative connection until they met on the first day of college. Their debut track ‘Maybe’ caused a first ripple of interest in 2022, before the line-up was finalised in 2023 with the addition of fellow college student James and then drummer Matt Barron – the latter of whom happened to be tearing through a beat-perfect cover of The Stone Roses’ ‘Waterfall’ at a pub gig at the precise moment Harry was scrolling through his phone desperately searching for a suitable drummer.
Now they share influences dotted across the history of British music, from pioneers like The Beatles and The Small Faces to current scene heroes The K’s and The Royston Club, via Arctic Monkeys and Paul Weller, and alongside less linear interests too, like ELO and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Attending the mega Oasis reunion was inspiring too – they could see first hand that there’s a huge, youthful audience for the kind of anthemic guitar music that they excel at.
The LAB Records / This Feeling deal is a huge stepping stone for The Cases – the two parties provide the expertise, connections, infrastructure and artist-friendly community that can open far more doors than they could hope to achieve working independently. The first step, they hope, will be more shows in front of bigger audiences as well as stretching their core audience far beyond the north-west. And longer term? The ambitions are to make music their full-time calling, to crash into the charts, and eventually become one of the UK’s biggest bands.
And between the strength of their songs and their commitment to the craft, that’s an entirely achievable ambition. They’re approachable, down-to-earth characters too: all too happy to have a chat, sign a poster or pose for a photo with a growing fanbase. But it’s real, too. If they’re not playing gigs, you’ll find them in the crowd at grassroots or academy-level shows. Simply, The Cases are on the way up.
The Cases have plenty on the live front coming up. Their second headline tour will culminate with their biggest show to date at Manchester Gorilla, which sold-out four months in advance.
