Therapy Horse Release Two Live Singles to Support Medical Aid for Palestinians
By A Special Live Cover Of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Avalanche’ And Their Original Track ‘Let Me Be Clear’ Are Now Available on Bandcamp
Cork/Limerick group Therapy Horse released two live recordings of their single “LET ME BE CLEAR” and their interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s “Avalanche,” all in aid of Medical Aid for Palestinians.
In discussing “Avalanche,” vocalist/bassist Emily Dollery shares “Avalanche is one of our favourites to perform live, and I feel that this recording captures the improvisation that goes into the song itself and our live show in general. Cormac takes the lead vocal on this one which gives me more space to let loose with my bass playing and add to the texture of the arrangement”. Cormac Donovan O’Neill (vocals / guitar) echoes this with “Avalanche has been a mainstay of our live set since our first gig, and tends to be a song where we can truly unleash the most uninhibited aspects of our performance from my own raw vocals to Schuch’s pulverizing drums. We thought our rather eccentric take on Leonard Cohen’s classic would be a perfect release for a live double single on Bandcamp Friday.”
This double release also includes a live version of their debut single “LET ME BE CLEAR” which Emily says “Likewise, this live version of “LET ME BE CLEAR” shows the energy we put into performing it at every gig. We always play it at the very end when we’re fairly bedraggled and I think it lends to the somewhat frantic overall sound”. Cormac says, “It is a song that often proves to be just a little different each time, as so much of what I bring to the song relies upon the interactions between my guitar and whatever amp is to hand – a live recording of this track shows off that spur-of-the-moment ferocity perfectly.”
Reflecting on the double release, Cormac states, “We wanted to release the tracks today for a twofold reason – first, to maximise the amount of proceeds that we can raise for Medical Aid for Palestinians, which is a charity doing absolutely vital relief work amidst the truly odious genocide being inflicted on a people living in the most dehumanising conditions. Second, as an ancillary goal, to raise awareness of Bandcamp as an alternative means of consuming music and supporting artists and the causes that are close to their hearts directly, rather than corporations which exploit those artists. We hope these live recordings – one of a Leonard Cohen song which has become a stalwart of our set, the other of our debut single LET ME BE CLEAR – will go some way to achieving these goals.”
